Nasinu coach Tagi Vonolagi said their 2-1 victory over Rewa in their opening clash has set the pace of the 2019 Courts Inter-District Championship which started yesterday at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

The former national captain/goalkeeper was elated with their performance on the first day.

“I am happy with the win today as the boys worked very hard and scored the goals which mattered. This is surely an upset as Rewa is a good team and they have some very good players including some national reps,” he said.

“We just trained and prepared for two weeks and the result today should definitely bring out more support for the team as we are always struggling to get sponsors.

“We have lots of injuries and have to regroup before our next match. As you know we lost our goalkeeper today and two other players are also out.”

Both teams were locked scoreless at halftime, before seasoned marksman, Joseph Mishra and Luke Savu scored in the second spell.

Rewa managed to pull one back through Kavaia Rawaqa. But the poor show from the Vodafone Premier League continues for the Delta Tigers

Nasinu plays Suva today at 4pm while Rewa battles Nadi at 6pm.

Totori saves Blues

Defending champions Lautoka managed a 1-1 draw against a tough Suntex Supermarket Labasa outfit in their pool match at Prince Charles Park in Lautoka last night.

Solomon Islander Benjamin Totori saved the day with his late equaliser two minutes before full time.

Babasiga Lions took the lead in the 11th minute through Siotame Kubu.

Lautoka coach Sham Lal said: “The boys made a fightback to equalize. This has given the boys the confidence and we have to play hard against Ba in the next match.”

Meanwhile, host Nadi was playing Suva when this edition went to press.
