Viliame Rokotabuivalu, who is alleged to have been involved in a hit and run accident that resulted in the death of a Police officer, has been remanded in custody.

The 21-year-old driver, resides at Malawai in Nadi and his case was called at the Nadi Magistrates Court yesterday.

Rokotabuivalu appeared before Magistrate Peni Dalituicama charged with six counts.

He faces one count of manslaughter, one count of dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, one count of careless driving, one count of failure to comply with requirements following an accident, one count of using a motor vehicle contrary to licence condition and one count of unlawful possession of illicit drugs. Marijuana was allegedly found inside the vehicle.

Lawyer Mark Anthony, who represented Rokotabuivalu, applied for bail but Magistrate Dalituicama had referred the case to the High Court in Lautoka for mention. It was alleged that Rokotabuivalu bumped into a 40-year-old man who was crossing at the road at the Namaka traffic lights last Wednesday night.

The accused will appear at the High Court in Lautoka on October 23.
