Hearing for Rival SODELPA Groups Set For December 10

Suva High Court Judge, Justice Vishwa Datt Sharma, has set December 10 to hear submissions from two rival SODELPA groups.
One group led by the party’s Suva constituency president Watisoni Nata has taken SODELPA officials; Ro Filipe Tuisawau (President), Adi Litia Qionibaravi (General Secretary), Anare Jale (Vice President) and Usaia Waqatairewa (Treasurer) to court over alleged breaches of the party constitution and the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013 and the Constitution of Fiji.
The action is linked to the party’s annual general assembly at Yaroi Village, Savusavu.
The Nata group is also making an application for fresh elections to be held to elect new office bearers of the party, nullifying the results of the Yaroi Village elections.
The plaintiffs are represented by Ashneel Narayan of Nadi-based AK Lawyers while the defendants are represented by Filimone Vosarogo. Justice Sharma has given 21 days for the defendants to file affidavit evidence and 14 days thereafter for the plaintiffs to do the same.
