With the annual Pinktober campaign in full swing, staff members of Fiji Airports have pledged their support to the Fiji Cancer Society.

This is after the staff came out in numbers for the Pinktober event last Saturday.

As the members regrouped for their annual Pinktober event last Saturday, communications and public relations officer Christopher Chand said the event also created an awareness within the organisation because there were recent cases of staff members being diagnosed with breast cancer.

“This kind of event helps to engage our staff in bringing us together as a team in creating awareness and letting each other know that the killer disease is real and what we need to do to prevent it. We had a couple of cases where our staff have been diagnosed with cancer and one just recently,” Mr Chand said.

He believes more awareness will encourage women to go for early check-ups and diagnosis.

“This is our second year and we have seen the support towards the campaign growing in numbers. We also plan to do the same next month for Movember, similarly creating awareness on Prostate Cancer for men. The funds we collect for two days will go towards the Fiji Cancer Society,” he said.

“Our Pinktober campaign was initiated by the Traffic Management Team and we want to sustain it by organising it every year. When we have an event like this or when we talk about it, we are actually educating and creating more awareness about this issue.”

Mr Chand acknowledges the FAL staff members who attended the event with their families.
