Baber Ups Tempo On Local 7’s Players

Gareth Baber has put the pressure on players to get into the right form before selection for the Oceania 7s Championship next month and the World Sevens Series on December 5-7 in Dubai.
The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s head coach put the extended squad through intense training at Albert Park, Suva yesterday.
Baber confirmed despite few injuries the boys are shaping up well.
“The boys look okay during training,” Baber said
“We have gone through some tough stuff over the couple of weeks here. We’ve increased the intensity during training and it all comes off from the base of the work these players had been doing during the off-season.
“And gearing towards the tournament, we try get lift the momentum. All in all everything looks okay.
“However, there are a few injuries in the side and we are nursing them.
“I am giving a chance for everybody in the team to push themselves for selection. But I already have a picture of how my final team will look like.
“I will continue to increase pressure on the players to get in the right form.”
He said Flying Fijians need to be part of the squad if they want to play at the World Sevens Series and 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
“The reason is we need to bond and spend time together, make mistakes together and move on as a team.
“With the new players coming on board they need to do a whole lot of work and prove themselves and work up to the standards of the boys who have represented Fiji.
“It is always good to have some new players and we will be expecting some Fiji Airways Fijian Drua as well and see how they cope and get along with the training environment here.”
