The remaining 76 Republic of Fiji Military Forces personnel who served in the Golan Heights under the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force arrived home on Tuesday night.

A Royal Australian Air Force A330 touched down in Nadi much to the delight of family and friends.

The first batch of 120 personnel had arrived last week – also on an A330.

Australian High Commissioner to Fiji John Feakes tweeted:

“All Fijians should be proud of their fellow Fijian men and women and their commitment to serving the cause of peace globally. Glad that Australian Air Force continues to work with Fiji in flying them safely to and from their destinations.”

Yesterday, at least 90 RFMF peacekeepers departed Nadi for Iraq on a 12-month tour of duty.

They will serve under the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq.

Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Satyendra Prasad thanked Mr Feakes “for the fantastic regional partnership in support of Fiji’s proud participation in United Nations peacekeeping and bringing our peacekeepers home safely”.

The support has been made possible through the recently signed Vuvale Partnership between Fiji and Australia.
