Three German nationals, a woman and two men were rescued by the RFNS Kikau on Friday.

Their yacht, Captain Ballu sank 200 kilometres South West of Kadavu. They arrived at the Captain Stanley Brown naval base yesterday.

Republic of Fiji Military Forces Naval Division operations officer Commander Timoci Natuva confirmed the Rescue Coordination Centre organised a search and rescue operation following a distress call.

“The centre coordinated a daring search and rescue operation during this inclement weather deploying the RFNS Kikau and a Navy search and rescue flight team after receiving the distress call.”

He said the German consulate had met the three sailors.
