The Immigration Department will soon be providing adequate shelter for their customers.

Director Immigration Nemani Vuniwaqa said they decided to take some action after they received complaints from customers.

Initially, they had turned their garage into a waiting place.

Mr Vuniwaqa said they would bring in tents and erect them as shelters for their waiting customers. This is expected to be completed this weekend.

Customers had complained about the lack of space in the office as large crowds, at least for the past week or two, have been visiting the office to collect or apply for their new e-passports. The large turnouts forced many Fijians to stand outside under the hot sun or in the rain while waiting to be served.

Mr Vuniwaqa gave the assurance that this time around their customers would have a proper shelter provided while waiting and water would also be available to them.

“Customer service remains a priority for the Department,” Mr Vuniwaqa said.
