Makareta Koroi, the mother of slain Police officer Siuta Niumataiwalu was handed a cheque from Life Insurance Corporation of India yesterday.

It was only Saturday when the 24-year-old was buried in a funeral ceremony befitting a hero.

The brave Police officer lost his life in the line of duty. He was stabbed by the assailant wanted for a series of alleged robberies. The incident happened at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

Ms Koroi said she was grateful to LICI for making the effort and coming to their home in Muanikoso Settlement in Narere.

“I would like to thank LICI for this payment of my son’s death claim and I am really emotional when the general manager of LICI Fiji YS Ashok brought the cheque himself,” she said.

“This is a very emotional moment for me and my family.”

It has been revealed that the insurance policy had been taken out by Siuta himself.

Ms Koroi had earlier stated that her son was thinking of investing in a brighter future for himself and the family.
