Dad Charged Over Death Of Baby, Handed Domestic Restraining Order

The father who allegedly caused the death of his four-month-old baby was issued an interim DVRO (Domestic violence restraining order) by the court yesterday.
The DVRO was issued by the court for the safety of the wife and two children (aged six years and one-year and six months respectively) of the accused, Tevita Veicavuyaki Kunawave.
Appearing in the Suva Magistrates Court before Magistrate Waleen George, Kunawave is charged with murder and had his case transferred to the High Court on the grounds that the offence was an indictable one.
The alleged incident occurred on Sunday, October 27 at their home in Nabua.
The 26-year-old soldier had waived his right to a lawyer, however he was advised by Magistrate George to seek a lawyer because of the seriousness of the charge. Kunawave then opted for Legal Aid.
The matter was adjourned for first call in the High Court in Suva on November 8.
