The events of November 2, 2000 will not be repeated under my watch!

That’s the message of assurance from the Land Force Commander, Colonel Manoa Gadai, yesterday.

As the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) commemorates the lives of loyal soldiers who died during the 2000 mutiny today, Colonel Gadai also expressed his condemnation of the cowardly act.

Today marks the 19th anniversary of this dark event in our history.

Colonel Gadai said officers, men and women under his command were working hard and would continue to remain vigilant to prevent the events of the 2000 mutiny at the RFMF in Nabua from being repeated.

“Mutiny is a cardinal sin, a very serious offence in the military and is never condoned and entertained,” he said.

He said the RFMF Unit SASO (Security and Stability Operations) was conducting daily patrols to assist the Police.

This is to show the public that they were here to provide security and stability to Fijians and tourists visiting our shores.

A ‘Remembrance Day’ will take place today at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks’ chapel. The service will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the 3FIR headquarters complex to remember the members of the RFMF who died in the line of duty.
