Live Tsunami Siren And Drill For Four Schools In Vatuwaqa

The National Disaster Management Office (NDMO) wishes to advise the general public that a tsunami table top exercise will be conducted with Fiji Ports Corporation Ltd and a live Tsunami Drill for four Primary Schools in the Vatuwaqa area will be conducted tomorrow (05/11/19).

Tomorrow marks the World Tsunami Awareness Day and Fiji in its quest to promote tsunami awareness will also activate all Tsunami Sirens at 2pm.

This is part of Government’s commitment towards improving its state of readiness for any tsunami event.

The schools participating are:

1.     Fiji School for the Blind                                                              30 students

2.     Mahatma Gandhi Memorial School                                         831 students

3.     Saint Marcellin Primary School                                                752 students

4.     Marist Champagnat Institute                                                   107 students

A total of 1720 students will be part of this drill and the NDMO wishes to advice members of the public and business community within the vicinity not to be alarmed as this only a tsunami drill.

The Fiji Police Force will be assisting students on the following roads;

1.     Nanuku Street

2.     Nakelo Street

3.     Vidal Avenue

4.     Fletcher road to Ratu Mara Road

5.     Nabua Road
