Villagers and residents of Vunidawa in Naitasiri will soon enjoy government and commercial services that were once not conveniently available to them.

The $6 million investment belongs to Naitasiri Investment Holdings Limited, which is a business arm of the Naitasiri Provincial Council. Ashok Balgovind and Associates are the architects and lead consultants of the development.

In an interview, Ashok Balgovind and Associates Managing Director and Principal Architect, Ashock Balgovind said they were planning a three-storey building in the heart of Vunidawa Government Station to cater to the needs of the residents.

“The three-storey floor is designed for a variety of tenancy space suitable for office space, supermarkets, barber shop, retail shop, restaurants, fast-food outlets, footwear shop,” Mr Balgovind said.

“Naitasiri Investments Holdings complex is one of its kind in the Naitasiri Area, which will draw potential customers from the interior and create great opportunity for business and employment.”

Vunidawa as hub

He said the whole idea was to make Vunidawa the hub for commercial activities for those in the province.

“It’s heading that way and the province itself has a lot of natural resources,” he said.

“The province is well motivated. We had meetings with the chiefs there and they are all wanting this done and we are also looking at government agencies that are not there that people have to run all the way to Suva or Nausori for to get necessary documents done.”

The development is the first of its kind in Vunidawa.

Construction work is due to begin by late January 2020 with a 12-month timeframe before its completion. The building will be constructed on a 2 ½ acre site and would provide employment for more than 100 people living in the area.

Mr Balgovind said they had tendered for the construction and were in the process of finalising everything.

He added the development was also in line with Government’s initiative to decentralise services.
