Judge Delivers Delivery Boy Four Years For Robbery

High Court Judge Justice Riyaz Hamza on Monday sentenced a 20-year-old delivery boy to four years in jail.
Ulaiasi Toni Junior appeared before Justice Hamza on Monday for aggravated robbery. He was sentenced to four years and eight months imprisonment.
Junior with others on May 8, 2019, at Nasinu, stole $600 cash and assorted recharge cards, and before committing the theft, he used force on the complainant. Junior had pleaded guilty on his own free will and taken full account of his actions.
Justice Hamza said: “Harsh penalties are being imposed due to the frequent offence of similar nature being committed in the society.”
The court heard that Junior had one previous conviction for aggravated burglary and theft and was handed a sentence on July 16, 2019, by the High Court in Suva.
Justice Hamza further said: “Given your previous conviction, I cannot consider you a person of good character. You are 20 years old and a young offender. You have chances of rehabilitation.”
Junior was given 30 days to appeal his sentence.
