16 Passengers On Fiji Link Flight To Suva Safe After Emergency Landing

A Fiji Link flight FJ 140 departing from Lakeba to Suva had to return shortly after take-off after an emergency window on the aircraft opened.

A statement from Fiji Link said: “The Viking Twin Otter DHC-6 Series 400 with 16 passengers on board had departed Lakeba at 11.35 am when its journey was cut short as its emergency window opened just as the aircraft took off.

“Flight crew followed the safety protocols and immediately acted to return the aircraft to Lakeba, which landed at 11.47 am.”

Fiji Link ensured that the safety of the guests and crew were of paramount importance to them. The 16 passengers on board were briefed and are being looked after by the Fiji Link crew in Lakeba.

Arrangements for a supplementary flight to Suva will also be arranged.

The Airline has assured that the aircraft will undergo remedial works by the Fiji Airways engineer before being brought back to the airline’s facilities in Nadi.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Fiji will see that it is in accordance with regulatory requirements.

The cause of the incident is currently under investigation.

The aircraft is a Viking Twin Otter DHC-6 Series 400.

It was manufactured in July 2017 and joined Fiji Link in February 2018.
