Three families are now homeless, after their houses were engulfed by fire yesterday afternoon at the Wailea Settlement in Vatuwaqa.

It is understood that the occupants were not at home during the time of the incident.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as horrific and a tragedy because strong winds caused the fire to quickly spread to the other homes after it started.

With very little option left for them the affected families were now pleading for help from Government to get back them on their feet.

A homeowner, Ravi Ratten, 30, was shocked when he returned from work to see his house left in ruins. His family members were not at home

He lives with his mother, wife, younger brother and his baby. He said they had no where to stay for the time being and they would have to find a new place to settle.

“Most of the things I have, which are now gone were mostly still on hire-purchase. It’s upsetting to think about my losses and to actully see the scene,” Mr Ratten said.

The National Fire Authority and Police were at the scene immediately after they received the call.

They have begun investigations into the cause of the fire.
