Woman Further Remanded For Lying To Police Officer

A 25-year-old woman of Nawaicoba, Nadi charged for allegedly giving false information to a Police Officer was further remanded by the Nadi Magistrates Court.
Zureen Nisha who was charged with one count of giving false information to a public servant was produced before Magistrate Nil Mini Fernandez.
The Court heard that on October 1 the accused had allegedly given false information to Police Constable Lenaitasi Waqa that she was assaulted by her husband.
The accused allegedly gave false information that she was a victim of assault and had claimed Police refused to assist her.
The Prosecution was represented by Corporal Bola Nadavu while the defence counsel was represented by Legal Aid.
The defence counsel told the Court that the counsel would be seeking bail for the accused.
Corporal Nadavu informed Magistrate Fernandez that the accused had four previous convictions including a pending matter which was a charge of breaching the Domestic Violence Restraining Order and one breach of her bail conditions.
Corporal Nadavu further said it would not be of public interest if the accused was released on bail as it would be likely for the accused to breach her bail conditions as she did previously.
Magistrate Fernandez told the accused to file a formal bail application.
She has been further remanded and will reappear on November 22, 2019.
