Hard work has paid off well for Fiji National University graduate Deepshay Roy.

Not only did he walk away on Friday with the Best Apprentice Heavy Commercial Vehicle (HCV) Mechanic award, Mr Roy was also named the Overall Best Apprentice 2019. That award also won him a one-week trip to Auckland, New Zealand.

But all that hard work was nothing without the loving support of his mother, Rajeshni Lata.

She said the four hours of travelling to witness her son’s graduation was definitely worth a surprise.

“I cried out of joy when I was called to the stage to award my son,” she said.

“Deepshay is very confident and hardworking and he has made me proud.”

A proud Mr Roy said: “Out of 81 graduates, I never expected to get two major awards.”

He is the workshop supervisor for Niranjans Autoport Limited in Lautoka. The company offered him to study HCV to gain more experience.

“I feel lucky to be given this opportunity by Niranjans and the company always reminded me to graduate with an award,” he said.
