A 37-year-old carpenter, who is alleged to have assaulted a Police Constable in Cunningham, has been told to file a formal bail application by the Magistrates Court in Nasinu.

Morisi Apimeleki is charged with one count of criminal intimidation and one count of serious assault.

The prosecutor also told the court that the complainant in the matter was the accused’s wife and objected to bail on the same ground.

He is alleged to have threatened the Police Constable on duty at the Cunningham Post.

The incident occurred after 3 am on November 9, whereby the accused entered the Cunningham Community Post and allegedly attacked the Police Constable on duty with an axe.

Quick response from the Valelevu Taskforce team led to the arrest of the suspect. The Police Constable was unharmed during the incident.

Apimeleki waived his right to counsel.

Police prosecutor served the accused with full phase disclosures.

Magistrate Ratakele issued a domestic violence restraining order against the accused for the safety and protection of the complainant.

The matter has been adjourned for mention this morning.
