Nausori Man Fronts Court For Alleged Police Assault

A Nausori man appeared at the Magistrates Court in Nasinu charged with various criminal offences.

Ropate Kaikadavu appeared before Magistrate Charles Ratakele during the special court sitting yesterday.

Kaikadavu is facing one count each of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, of damaging property, of resisting arrest and of assault causing actual bodily harm.

For the offence of unlawful possession of illicit drugs, it is alleged that Kaikadavu on November 8, 2019, at Nasinu, unlawfully had in his possession 96 grams of marijuana, an illicit drug.

For the offence of damaging property, it is alleged that Kaikadavu on November 8, 2019, at Nasinu, damaged six louvre blades belonging to Fiji Police Force.

For the offence of resisting arrest, it is alleged that Kaikadavu on November 8, 2019, at Nasinu, resisted arrest from a Police officer in due execution of his duty.

For the offence of assault causing actual bodily harm, it is alleged that Kaikadavu on November 8, 2019, at Nasinu, assault the Police officer in due execution of his duty.

Magistrate Ratakele said Kaikadavu had another matter which he was not attending to court.

He also told Kaikadavu that he had three charges against the authority and two drug-related charges before the magistrate.

Magistrate Ratakele ordered Kaikadavu to file a formal bail application.

The matter has been adjourned for mention on November 19.

Kaikadavu has been remanded in custody.
