Another Suspected Measles Case In Navua

There is another suspected measles case being examined at the Navua Hospital.
This was confirmed by Dr Anaseini Maisema, the Subdivisional Medical Officer (SDMO) Serua/Namosi. She said a suspect was cleared after the test result was negative, but now they have another new case.
Dr Maisema yesterday gave a briefing on the measles outbreak and what they were doing with some doctors from Suva.
Chow Games participants
Students from primary schools in the Serua/Namosi province participating at the Chow Games have been vaccinated, including people from the red zone area.
They’ll be taking part in the games which is starting tomorrow and will end on Saturday.
Dr Maisema confirmed that students from Serua and Namosi schools would be participating at the games and they would not be posing a health threat.
Meanwhile, the Minister for Health Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete said he had been briefed each morning on the measles outbreak.
A task force had been set up and is led by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services Head of Health Protection, Dr Aalisha Sahukhan.
The Task Force, he said, had been set up specifically to monitor the measles outbreak.
The minister had also reminded members of the public about the impact of climate change to the nation and the people.
He said families should be prioritised and parents should play their role in keeping them healthy.
The family, he said, must not be caught off-guard when something happened. He reminded the parents from the Serua/Namosi sub-divisional parents that they must make sure they are vaccinated.
Many people from the two provinces were at the Navua Hospital yesterday for vaccination.
