The Daveta 7s rugby team have shifted their focus to this weekend’s Hottest Darwin Sevens tournament in Australia.

The Nadroga-based side is on a high after successfully defending the Singapore Cricket Club (SCC) International Rugby Sevens tournament title, last weekend.

The beat Pronsby 19-17 in the Cup final to lift the Ablitt Cup once again.

This weekend’s two-day tournament offers lucrative prize money of $90 000 to the winning team.

Daveta captain Luke Nadurutalo believes they have prepared well for the tournament and are ready to play.

“We train every day maybe two sessions a day because we need to be fit to play the type of rugby that we want to play,” Nadurutalo who this year also captained the Vodafone Fijian Residents and the Prime Minister’s XIII rugby league teams said.

“Our training has paid off in Singapore last weekend so this time we’re working a little bit harder to try and be consistent.

“This year we are well-prepared for this tournament with the aim to win the tournament for the first time.”

Nadurutalo said they have to be clinical if they are to lift the cup this weekend.

“Our game plan is simple we need to stick to the weather conditions and play according to it.

“Just throw the ball around don’t get caught up in the contact areas and avoid rucks because we don’t want to tire our body in contesting the ball in those areas.”
