Seaqaqa Primary School’s Under-12 middle-distance runner Unaisi Maivale dedicated her first gold medal at the FMF Chow Games to her family.

Representing Macuata South, she clocked 5.15.82 minutes in the girls 1500 metres’ final to claim the gold medal to the delight of her supporters at the ANZ Stadium, Suva yesterday.

“This is the first time for me to participate at the Chow Games and I’m happy to win gold,” she said.

“To win gold is something special for me that I’ll never forget and I know my parents and all my supporters will be watching on TV.”

Maivale said she has achieved her target and is grateful to her parents, teachers and school-mates for always believing in me.

“I had to sacrifice my family time just to train and prepare for this event. I always train every morning and afternoon.

“Waking up to a cold morning is not an easy thing but I thank my parents for always pushing me to the limit when it comes to training.

“But mostly I want to thank the Lord for his provision on this wonderful talent to run, I want to return the honour and glory back to him.”
