Tavua College head boy and dux award recipient Shivnesh Prasad attributed the support of family and staff members as contributing factors to his achievements.

The 18-year-old of Yasisyasi, Tavua held his composure but was visibly happy when interviewed after the school’s prizegiving ceremony on November 15.

In addition to his main achievement, Shivnesh also received awards for the Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry subjects as well as a leadership award.

“I really feel happy because after all my hard work I finally achieved this and it was really difficult preparing for the Year 13 exams,” he said.

“If not for my family and teachers’ support, I don’t think I would have accomplished what I had achieved.”

He has applied to the University of Fiji and the Fiji School of Medicine for the MBBS programme and will keep his fingers crossed.

Proud father Jagdishwar Prasad, 48, commended his son’s achievement.

“Working for Courts Fiji for years as a Retail Manager, we endured a lot because of transfers, but Shivneshe always adapted well in every school he has put it,” he said.

“Shivnesh was passionate about his school work and we were overjoyed seeing him receive his award, but this is a beginning, he will need to work harder on his journey.”
