Gareth Baber continues to emphasise discipline as they prepare for the first tournament of the 2019-20 World Sevens Series in Dubai on December 5-7.

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s coach constantly warns players to get it right during training at Albert Park.

Baber said players being sent off for indiscipline during the series always proved costly to the team in the end.

He said the team copped 26 yellow cards and 2 red cards during the 2018-19World Sevens Series.

Baber said the players need to be regularly educated on the issue.

“We continue to educate our players on why they get yellow cards, educating them on certain perception about what happens when Fiji are on the field,” he said.

“We got to show control. When we look back at the Oceania Sevens tournament earlier this month, we gave away most penalties in the contact areas for not been supporting our body weights.

“And secondly not releasing players so obviously those are yellow card offences.

“Indiscipline can be detrimental to teams. And to lose players during a game whether it’s World Sevens Series or Olympic Games would be costly.

“We need to move in the right direction, tackle right and play smart.

“ We have to be aware of it because it affects our game and obviously the yellow cards pressure the team in terms of numbers and obviously that is what we want to bring to their attention every time. So it is very important to keep that discipline factor.”
