Newly appointed general manager of Denarau Corporation Limited is a firm believer of locals who have the skills and expertise to take up senior executive roles in large companies.

Nesbitt Hazelman, the outgoing chief executive officer (CEO) of the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation, will take up his new role on December 9.

The announcement was made by the chairman of the Nadi-based Denarau Corporation, Pramesh Sharma, yesterday.

Mr Hazelman takes over from Robert Speed, who has taken up a new role as General Manager of Captain Cook Cruises.

“First of all I would like to thank the board for the faith and the trust that they have in me,” Mr Hazelman said.

“It is a new challenge for me and what I am looking for in Fiji’s largest industry and I will contribute at the CEO’s level.

“It gives me an opportunity to display the skills I have developed over the many years that I have been with the Federation.

“I take with me not only the skills set required for this new role but also my wide network and vast knowledge which should enable me to effectively and efficiently carry out that role with no problems at all.

“It’s good that we are looking internally and I subscribe to that the fact that we have got a lot of locals in Fiji who are able to take up senior executive roles and we should be looking at that. I am a firm believer of that.”

Appointment

In announcing the appointment, Mr Sharma welcomed Mr Hazelman to this challenging role for Fiji’s largest Integrated Mixed- Development Resort.

“Mr Hazelman is a senior executive with vast experience in planning and HR/IR, being a Masters in Industrial Relations graduate from Sydney University,” Mr Shama said.

“He will be instrumental in putting into action strategies that continue to position Denarau Island as a destination Fiji can be proud of and a key contributor to employment, foreign exchange and having world-class 5-Star Hotels.

Mr Hazelman and his team would be tasked with the day-to-day management duties ensuring compliance by precincts with all current and future development regulations. This includes management of all common areas, and coastal protection of the island whilst maintaining proper legal and financial management compliance and having a robust risk management plan.

Denarau Corporation Limited’s core business is to administer, manage and develop a sustainable, financially viable five-star integrated island resort community – Denarau Island Resort. This is behalf of its precinct members – Hotels, Residential, Commercial, Marina and the Golf Club.
