Dilkusha Boys School dux recipient Antariksh Deo dedicated his award to his late best friend, Marika Sovaki.

Alongside him to collect his award on Tuesday was Marika’s mother, Alena Sovaki.

It was a moving gesture of love and friendship.

Marika passed away in January when he was electrocuted at the Lelean Memorial School teachers’ quarters.

Antariksh was shocked when he found out about his best friend’s death.

“We were best of friends, so his parents encouraged me to do this for Marika.

“Today (Tuesday) I was thinking of Marika. He had a dream of being dux, so I fulfilled his dream.”

Antariksh also acknowledged the help from his parents Aman and Rachel Deo.

Another student, who excelled despite the loss of his parents this year was Livai Vakatikati.

Livai was the best Year 7  Religion Education student.

He lost his mother, Vilisi Vakatikati, in February this year and his father was buried last week.

Livai’s source of strength is the Word of God.

“My favourite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13. It lifts my spirit every day when I think about my parents,” he said.
