Police are investigating the discovery of an unidentified man who was found dead on the Navo railway bridge, Nadi, on Friday night.

It is believed that the man allegedly died after being crushed by a Fiji Sugar Corporation locomotive that was transporting cane from Nadi to Lautoka, along the Navo railway bridge, which runs next to the bridge.

Divisional Police Commander West Senior Superintendent of Police Surend Sami confirmed that they had received a report.

“The incident happened in Nadi and he (victim) was found dead on the tramline and was taken to the hospital. But we are still in the preliminary stages of the investigation,” he said.

“We also cannot confirm the identity of the man however the locomotive belongs to FSC (Fiji Sugar Corporation).”

FSC chief executive officer Graham Clark said: “We are doing an investigation into the incident.”
