Former Ministry of Agriculture Employee Charged

A former Agriculture Assistant was charged in the Nadi Magistrates Court with a corruption related offence last Friday.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Ivamere Buituni with two (2) counts of General Dishonesty – Obtaining a Gain.

It is alleged that while employed by the Ministry of Agriculture in Nadi in 2016, she obtained a total of $1,800.00 from an individual by claiming to arrange for the drilling of a borehole and the supply of poultry manure for the individual’s farm.

FICAC State Counsel Mr Adrian Sharma informed the court that first phase disclosures have been served and requested for strict bail conditions.

Resident Magistrate Nirosha Kannangara granted the accused bail and instructed her to report to the FICAC Lautoka office on the last week of every month, not to re-offend and not to change her place of residence.

A stop departure order was also imposed.

The matter was adjourned to 17 December 2019.
