The Attorney-General and Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum started his week-long official visit to New Zealand on Monday.

He was also the guest of honour at the Twelfth Annual Indian Newslink – Indian Business Awards, held at SkyCity Convention Centre in Auckland.

He joined New Zealand’s Minister of Finance Grant Robertson, Ethnic Communities Minister Jenny Salesa, Minister of Immigration Iain Lees-Galloway, National Party Leader Simon Bridges, Fijian High Commissioner Filimone Waqabaca, New Zealand High Commissioner to Fiji Jonathan Curr and more than 15 Members of Parliament at the awards ceremony.

In his speech, the Attorney-General endorsed Fiji’s economy and business opportunities.

“You will do exceptionally well with your business if you spread your wings to Fiji,” Mr Sayed-Khaiyum informed the audience.

He also noted in his speech, how Fiji is aiming to improve its ease of doing business ranking, new technology being adopted into the country and the challenges that come with adapting it to the 110 islands which make up the country.

In his closing speech, the Attorney-General remarked on how New Zealand and Fiji can collaborate to solve these challenges.

“We look forward to working with your various businesses.”

The Attorney-General also acknowledged the Indian Business Awards organisers for adding a special category to the 2020 awards which is Excellence in Trading with Fiji.

This award will recognise the special relationship New Zealand and Fiji have.

Best Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum was given the honour to present the award for Best Young Entrepreneur of the Year which was sponsored by the Fiji Trade Commission to New Zealand.

The trophy was awarded to Satyan Mehra, Director of iFly Limited.

The event was attended by over a thousand guests from the New Zealand business community.
