‘It All Started At Seganabetena’

If you have been to Vio Island, off Lautoka, you might come across a small playing field known as ‘Seganabetena’ meaning of no use.
That’s exactly where some national reps learned how to play rugby including Fiji Airways Fijian 7s rep Aminiasi Tuimaba.
The other national reps are Niko Qoro, Sikeli Nasau, Jimilai Nasau, Jo Vunisa, Manoa Qerea and Mosese Voka.
“It all started at Seganabetena. “That is where we play whether it’s high or low tide,” Tuimaba said.
“Our elders played there, same condition as it is today.
“We just love playing at Seganabetena. It is a big journey from there to Dubai where I made my World Sevens Series debut last year.”
Tuimaba was a key player for the Gareth Baber-coached side last season, featuring in all tournaments.
“I am ready for another shot, we have a good team and we request the fans to back us up,” he said.
Celebrating the 50th year of sevens in Dubai, Fiji open their title defence next Friday against Japan (4.02pm), Argentina (10.04pm) and France (4.02am) on Saturday.
