A woman in her 30s died after the vehicle she was travelling in was involved in a head-on collision with a truck yesterday

The alleged incident occurred along the North Coastal Road, Vacala, Taveuni.

The woman was travelling in the vehicle driven by her husband, and they were accompanied by her two sons and another man, from Weilagi, when the accident occurred.

The victim’s husband allegedly lost control of their vehicle causing it to veer onto the opposite lane and collided with a 12 Wheeler Truck.

The 56year old suspect, his 6year old son and another passenger are admitted at the Taveuni Hospital in critical condition.

The victim’s 18year old son claimed to have seen his father dozing off seconds before the accident occurred, however, this is still subject to investigation.

The driver of the truck escaped unharmed.

The road death toll currently stands at 55 compared to 65 for the same period last year.
