Suva’s Albert Park will be closed until February 2020 to allow rehabilitation work on the $16 million grounds.

Since it first opened in September 2016, this is the first time for such rehabilitation work.

Suva and Lami special administrator chair Isikeli Tikoduadua said from now on the renewal works on the ground would be done annually to ensure the sustainability of Albert Park.

“Albert Park is an iconic venue. In 2016, when the ground was opened after the $16 million work, there was no major renewal work done,” he said.

“There had been heavy traffic on the ground. It was used by many sports including Super Rugby, World Rugby, and other sports.

“Public have been using the ground as well.” Some members of the public have been using the Albert Park almost on a daily basis and are happy that repairs are taking place.

“I use the park. That is my exercise venue. I just hope that the work done is good and the council realises that people are eagerly awaiting to use the park,” Nilesh Singh said.
