An early morning fire has destroyed an automotive spare parts shop in Manoca, Nausori yesterday.

National Fire Authority was alerted to the fire at the shop belonging to Ba Motor Parts Limited.

According to a neighbour, Jaswant Singh, the whole area was lit because it was still dark when the fire started.

“My wife woke me up. She told me something was on fire.

“Then I heard fire trucks. I think that was around 5 am,” Mr Singh said.

“We went to see where the fire was. I think NFA did very good work. They were able to control the fire and ensure that it did not spread to the next office which is in the same building.

“And I am grateful that no life has been lost. I think we need to pay our firefighters better.”

Ba Motor Parts Limited director Shanil Singh said the incident was most unfortunate.

“That was our main branch. I have been told that Police and NFA are investigating what caused the fire,” he said.

“I had four staff at the Nausori shop and they will be moved to Suva for a temporary measure.”

Mr Singh said the company would open another branch in Nausori.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
