Alleged Mokani Hit And Run Driver Remanded

A 41-year-old soldier, who is alleged to have caused the death of a 19-year-old boy in Mokani, Tailevu has been ordered to file a formal bail application.
Sitiveni Tukaituraga appeared before Magistrate Lasitha Chaminda at the Magistrates Court in Nausori yesterday.
He is charged with one count each of dangerous driving occasioning death and failure to comply with requirements following an accident.
Tukaituraga was arrested after investigators conducted house to house enquiries and viewing of CCTV footage and information gathered from the members of the public.
He was represented by the duty solicitor from the Legal Aid Commission. The Police prosecutor served the accused with the disclosures.
The duty solicitor made an oral bail application on the grounds that the accused was not a flight risk and was willing to surrender his travel documents.
The solicitor also told the court that the accused voluntarily surrendered himself to the Police.
Magistrate Chaminda said the offence was serious and ordered the accused to file a formal bail application.
Tukaituraga has been remanded in custody and the matter adjourned for plea on December 9.
