Search for toddler moves to forest near settlement

The search for three-year-old missing child Talei Raikadroka of Kalekana in Lami is now focused on the forestry area near the settlement.

Talei’s maternal grandmother Arieta Ronaiqato said the search for her continued yesterday including all areas around Kalekana with negative results.

She said that Police did not accompany them in the search yesterday.

“Police came around and took statements from the boys who had been searching for the child. Some of these boys are doing nothing else but looking for our little girl,” she said.

“They have even gone as far as the sea and the mangroves.”

Ms Rainaqato said it had been an emotional and heart breaking journey for her daughter Losalini Lalaia. She said she was worried about her health.

“My daughter is very worried. Just yesterday, she stumbled across the dress, Talei was wearing on Friday afternoon when she went to her grandfather’s place,” she said.

“She held the dress and started to cry. I feel that there should be some counseling given to her to deal with the pain she is going through.”

Talei was last seen at her paternal grandfather Devekuta Raikadroka’s place on Friday morning.

Police have also launched an internal investigation looking into the handling of the matter when it was first reported.

Talei remains missing.
