The three assessors in the case of a man accused of forcing a teenager into sex work, have found him guilty as charged.

Josevata Werelagi, 35, who is also known as Josie, faced three counts of domestic trafficking in children and one of aggravated sexual servitude.

The Charges:

He appeared before Judge Justice Daniel Goundar for the summing up of his case yesterday.

It is alleged that Werelagi between July 18, 2015, and July 22, 2015, in Suva, by the use of threats or force caused a 15-year-old girl to enter into or remain in sexual servitude.

Werelagi between July 18, 2015, and July 22, 2015, in Nausori, facilitated the transportation of a 15-year-old girl from Nausori to Rewa Street with intent that the girl provide sexual services.

The prosecution was represented by Lavenia Bogitini and Shirley Tivao from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions while Werelagi was represented by Talei Kean Hughes and Salote Nasedra from the Legal Aid Commission.

The three assessors delivered their unanimous opinion of guilty of aggravated sexual servitude and domestic trafficking in children for Werelagi.

The matter has been adjourned for judgment on December 9. Werelagi has been remanded in custody.
