A former High Court judge, Paul Madigan, is back in the country for a short visit.

Now retired and living in Auckland, New Zealand, Justice Madigan arrived here on Tuesday to attend the wedding of his former clerk, which will be held in Nadi.

Justice Madigan, who chose to stay at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka, said: “I am here for my clerk’s wedding this Saturday in Nadi and I couldn’t think of anywhere better I’d like to go to then the Tanoa, but I will be returning next Wednesday.

“I have been coming to the Tanoa for six years, usually for work or for holidays. It feels comforting and it feels like home because the staff here are very friendly and there’s good service.

Justice Madigan retired in July this year after working for five years as a judge in Fiji.

“I worked as a prosecutor in Hong Kong from 1982 till 2004 then I came to work in Fiji around 2007 or 2008 as a FICAC consultant until the Chief Justice Gates invited me to work as a judge,” he said

“I officially finished my work as a judge in 2015 and then I did part-time work in Lautoka and Labasa from 2016 till July of this year.”

Tanoa Hotel Group general manager Narend Kumar said: “This time we will have a lot of local travellers, especially with people coming in and staying overnight so we are targeting our local clients.

“We have decorated the hotel and everyone is hyped up for the festive season and we will be doing a little something for the staff and their families.”
