The IFG New South Wales Under-18 team defeated Fiji West 2-0 during the Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup final at Churchill Park, Lautoka yesterday

The Australians capitalise on the home team’s discipline problems and lack of coordination throughout the match.

Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup director Bruce Tilt said it was unique that all four finals yesterday had been contested by Fiji West and IFG New South Wales.

“Fiji West have a really strong history of developing quality junior players and the Ultimate Fiji Soccer Cup has given them an ideal platform to showcase their talents,” he said.

IFG New South Wales team coach Andrew Mason said the home team put up a good game.

“I think across the week it was pretty good, Fiji West were a very strong and powerful team and we knew there would be a very hard game today, we sat back and we absorbed the pressure and we got a couple of goals on the counter attack,” he said.

He said Fijian football continued to improve at every level.

“We brought out team across so that we could help Fiji Football and to give Australian kids a chance to play international football and for some of them this is the fifth time they have come over and they really liked this trip,” he said.

Mason said the team will leave for Sydney today
