A 26-year-old athlete who is alleged to have stabbed his 39-year-old partner at an apartment complex in Suva, has been remanded in custody.

Kennol Suraj Narayan appeared before Magistrate Jioji Boseiwaqa yesterday charged with one count of act with intent to cause grievous harm. The accused allegedly stabbed his girlfriend (the complainant) in her stomach with a kitchen knife during a drinking party after a heated exchange on December 8.

An employee of the apartment complex heard the woman screaming for help and alerted Police.

Magistrate Boseiwaqa remanded the accused in custody and ordered him to file a formal bail application.

He said it was an indictable offence and any bail application was to be made at the High Court.

The matter has been adjourned for mention to December 19.
