Lautoka Swimming Pool Delay Under Probe By Ministry

The delay in the construction of the Lautoka Swimming Pool is now under investigation, a municipal council official has confirmed.
The acting chairperson for the Lautoka and Ba Special Administrators Board, Beatrice Nast, said an investigation was being conducted by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism to determine the delay in the project.
The investigation comes after a meeting between the Ratepayers Association and three members of the Ba and Lautoka Special Administrators on Wednesday at the Lautoka City Council Chambers.
“There is an investigation taking place as we speak about the swimming pool and the new board is looking forward to finishing the swimming pool project. The new special administrators are looking on a way forward to serve the community and Lautoka City,” Ms Nast said.
Lautoka Rate Payers Association president Narayan Reddy said their members were concerned about the increase of the pool’s construction costs.
“The biggest question was the swimming pool. How did the construction cost come from $7.24 million to $12.6 million?” he asked.
“We are glad that we met the administrators and they have learned of these issues and we are grateful that we had this meeting,” he said.
“They have also said they will have this meeting once every three months.”
