Nausori Highlands murder accused, Mohammed Raheesh Isoof, said he was having an affair with Nileshni Kajal, the High Court in Suva heard.

This was revealed during a bail ruling of New Zealand resident bus driver, Isoof, 62, who is facing murder charges of a family in Nadi.

High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar while delivering the bail ruling said: “He (Isoof) has given an innocent explanation for driving the family to the Nausori Highlands saying he was having an affair with the daughter of the couple.”

Justice Goundar has refused Isoof’s bail on the grounds that he was a flight risk and may not turn up for his trial, if granted bail.

Isoof appeared before Justice Goundar via Skype from the High Court in Lautoka and was represented by lawyer Iqbal Khan. The State prosecution was represented by Semi Babitu from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Isoof is charged with five counts of murder. He is alleged to have murdered carpenter Nirmal Kumar, his 54-year-old wife Usha Devi, their 34-year-old daughter Nileshni Kajal and her two daughters Sana aged 11 and Samara aged eight years old, between August 25 and 26. The bodies of the deceased were found at the Nausori Highlands in Nadi.

Isoof is also facing a charge of attempted murder of an 11-month-old infant by abandoning her at the Nausori Highlands.
