Couple Charged For Conspiring to Obtain Gain

A former clerk for the Department of Heritage and Arts and her husband appeared in the Suva Magistrates Court today charged with corruption-related offences.

The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) charged Mrs Rosalia Muavesi with one (1) count each of Conspiracy to Defraud – Obtaining a Gain, Obtaining a Financial Advantage and Forgery.

She is alleged to have forged and used receipts as false claims for Transport Hire from her former employers to obtain $660.00 FJD between March and April this year.

The second accused, Mr Nick Stark was charged with one (1) count each of Conspiracy to Defraud – Obtaining a Gain and Aiding and Abetting Obtaining a Financial Advantage for allegedly helping his wife commit the above acts.

FICAC State Counsel Ms Arieta Vaganalau informed the court that first phase disclosures were served to the duo and requested for strict bail conditions.

Resident Magistrate Mr Asanga Bodaragama issued a Stop Departure Order and instructed both of them not to re-offend or interfere with witnesses.

The first accused was ordered to appear next Monday to confirm surrendering her passport.

The matter was adjourned to 16 January 2020.
