Former School Manager Remanded

A former primary school manager was remanded after being charged with corruption-related offences in the Nausori Magistrates Court yesterday.

Mr Ilisavani Vualiku was charged by the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) with two (2) counts of Obtaining a Financial Advantage and one (1) count of Causing a Loss.

He is alleged to have cashed a cheque meant for the school he managed to obtain $1,500.00 FJD in 2014 and $1,600.00 FJD in 2015.

He is further alleged to have caused a loss of $19,443.19 FJD to the school by not submitting the proper acquittals of the usage of the funds between January 2014 and November 2015.

In a second case, he is charged with one (1) count of Escape from Lawful Custody for having escaped from a FICAC Investigator after asking to use a public convenience.

The Resident Magistrate, having deemed the Accused as a flight risk due to the escape, remanded him accordingly.

FICAC State Counsel Ms Josanne Pene informed the court that first phase disclosures had been served on the Accused.

The matter was adjourned to 30 December 2019.
