To acknowledge the hard working staff of the Golden Age Home in Labasa, Minister for Women, Children and Poverty Alleviation, Mereseini Vuniwaqa surprised them with a thanksgiving dinner.

This was held at the home on Thursday night.

“I have seen a lot of changes, particularly in the health of the residents that is all owed to you and your tireless efforts,” she said.

Ms Vuniwaqa said she could not find the words to describe the efforts given by the staff.

“During my numerous visits, I have been able to meet each and every one of you.

“I would like to thank the REACH team for the efforts you have shown, the commitments and the sacrifice doing the ground work, similar to what the staff of the home have been doing throughout the year.

“To be able to come and be here with the residents of the home giving your beautiful voices, that takes a level of commitment that no pay packet can pay for.

“I thank you sincerely for staying up late at night, delivering services, which very few of us get to see and it is a huge privilege to be a minister and be able to see this – the tireless efforts of civil servants and staff of the home for the efforts you put into serving fellow Fijians.”

Ms Vuniwaqa also acknowledged the families of the members of staff for supporting them in their work.

Senior Social Welfare Officer Northern Josefa Ratawake said it was an emotional moment for the 26 members of staff of the home.

He said it was the first time they ever had such an occasion and they were grateful for the recognition.

“Everyone was surprised about what the Madam Minister did and we acknowledge her.”
