Kumar: Hibiscus Festival To Reflect Suva City Of 2020

There are celebrations plans for Fiji’s 50th year of independence next year, said the President of the Suva Retailers Association (SRA), Vinay Kumar.

This includes hosting the Hibiscus Festival in Suva and rebranding the festival to reflect the Suva City of 2020, Mr Kumar said.

“As you may or may not be aware that Hibiscus festival belongs to both Suva City Council and Suva Retailers Association who are the custodial partners.”

He said there was more to be positive about in the coming New Year. “We have an ambitious plan for 2020, which will only be possible with the support of the committee members and the SRA members.”

He said festival’s organising committee would invite the SRA members to consult the public on the festival.

Mr Kumar said they were working with the chairperson of the Suva and Lami Special Administrators, Isikeli Tikoduadua, on issues of policing, safety, including CCVT and issues of traffic in the Suva Central Business District.

He said they were also working with the Suva City Council, Ministry of Local Government, Fiji Police force and Fiji Roads Authority to address growing issues in the city.

“We plan to introduce late night shopping in CBD. This can only happen with stakeholders working together from providing lighting to security for shoppers,” Mr Kumar said.

“We are planning bigger and better Suva on Sale in 2020”.
