Fiji Airports paid out $1,135,000 in bonuses to 540 of its work colleagues, at an average of $2,100 per person.

Bonus was paid out in three tiers starting at $1,500; $2,000 and six per cent of salary; but excluded senior executives who are not entitled to across-the-board bonuses.

The bonus will be given to staff today.

Fiji Airports chief executive officer Faiz Khan said: “These bonuses before Christmas are given across the board to majority of our colleagues based on the success of our company.

Company Achievements

“This year we received recognition at the prestigious Prime Minister’s Awards for the Supreme Award; received Silver Awards in Asia Pacific for Green Airports; and received level 2 carbon accreditation certification.

“In addition, we have successfully delivered a number of infrastructure and systems related projects designed to improve the services we provide to our customers both as an airport operator and as an air navigation service provider (ANSP). Fiji Airports is unique in that it is the only airport in the region and most of the world that manages its airports (15) and its ANSP.

Fiji Airports upgrade plans

“With the surveillance upgrades for our ANSP; the multiple runway enhancement projects in outer islands such as Levuka and Lakeba that are completed; with Kadavu and Labasa commencing in the new year; with Nausori runway upgrades 40 per cent complete; and with the $3 billion to be spent over the next 25 years on the Nadi Airport Master Plan that is now into its implementation phase; we have challenging yet exciting times ahead.

“More than ever before we need to be prudent in our financial management of resources, work strategically and as a coherent team rowing towards our goals.

“This bonus payment is not based on individual performances but based on how the organisation performed as a whole.

“Throughout the year the company, in addition, continuously recognises individuals who excel in their performances. We have seen our people grow and continue to be hungry to grow further.

“This is our main area of focus.

“However, the entire team, each and every colleague of ours, strives and works hard to deliver results.

“In the spirit of team these across the board bonuses are given out of profits to all our colleagues. We thank our board of directors and shareholders for their ongoing support.

Mr Khan also thanked the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Minister responsible for Civil Aviation, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum for approving the bonus.
