A self-employed man, who allegedly stabbed his ex-wife, in Fulaga Street in Samabula earlier this month, has been remanded in custody.

Tevita Kapaiwai, 45, appeared before Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama at the Magistrates Court in Suva yesterday.

He is charged with one count each of attempted murder, aggravated robbery and criminal intimidation. The alleged incident of attempted murder occurred on the evening of December 3, this year.

Kapaiwai allegedly stabbed the 43-year-old complainant several times with a brown wooden handled kitchen knife with a long silver blade.

Police prosecutor Constable Walter Taito served full phase of disclosures to the accused and objected to his bail on the grounds that Kapaiwai had three previous convictions of forfeiture of bail conditions. He also objected on the grounds that Kapaiwai allegedly tried to murder his ex-wife, and the offences he faced were indictable.

He made the bail submission for Kapaiwai to be dealt by the High Court.

Magistrate Bodaragama declined the oral bail application made by the Legal Aid Commission duty solicitor.

He said the accused was a clear threat to the community and had committed the offences while he was on bail for other matters. The matter has been adjourned to December 23.
