A head on collision between two vehicles in Naimelimeli, Navua, landed two men in hospital.

The accident involving a Toyota Landcruiser van heading towards Suva and a Maxus heading in the opposite direction occurred around midday yesterday.

Fiji Sun managing editor (training) Nemani Delaibatiki, who was heading towards Nadi, said the accident occurred near the Navua Hospital.

He said they had to wait for some time before things were cleared. It has been confirmed that the driver of the Maxus vehicle was later transferred to Suva from the Navua Hospital.

Police are yet to issue a statement regarding the accident.

Meanwhile, Police have stepped up their festive season operations. In the 24 hours ending yesterday morning, seven people had been arrested for drunk driving and 623 traffic infringement notices issued.

Police also charged 249 people for speeding, five for illegal operation and 11 for careless driving in the same period.

The message from Police is simple, follow the road rules and don’t break the law.
