The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) is planning to overhaul the Deans rugby competition for the first time since inception in 1939.

FSSRU vice-president Biu Colati believes the new format will give schools from other zones a chance to witness their teams play.

“We are going to re-format our Deans competition for the very first time,” Colati said.

“Before it used to be at one venue, so come next year we are going to give the opportunity to the ones that are first from zones to host their quarter finals within specified locations.

“We have booked Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori and Prince Charles Park in Nadi, for the quarter finals.”

Colati added that schools outside Suva will have the opportunity to host quarter finals and even the finals of the coveted Deans trophy.

“The school that tops their zones will have an opportunity to host the quarter final and so are the number one team from the Eastern and Southern zones,” he said.

“We know how much support people have for their schools, especially the old scholars, so we want to make it convenient for them.

“For next year, our semi-finals will be held at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park and the grand Vodafone Deans final will be held at Ba’s Govind Park.”
